Hundreds of Norwegian American enthusiasts gathered at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Washington DC on Sunday, September 18th, 2005.  In attendance were their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja, Princess Ragnhild and Princess Astrid, Vice President Walter Mondale along with other officials in the Norwegian American community.

The Norwegian American Foundation awards grants to total $100,000 in 2005 to Norwegian American organizations.

Former Vice President Walter F. Mondale announced that the U.S. will honor the 2005 centennial of Norway's formation as an independent democracy with a statue of the late Crown Princess Märtha - from the Norwegian-American community to the people of Norway.

On December 6, 2002, Former Vice President Walter Mondale announced the formation of a Centennial Committee at a news conference held at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C. This committee will plan activities in the United States leading up to the 100th anniversary of Norway's national sovereignty in 2005.
